DUTCH SWING COLLEGE BAND
Sunday Septembre 24th – 15.00 hrs | Music | Tickets here

The Dutch Swing College Band, the leading and best-known jazz orchestra in the Netherlands, still guarantees professional performances of traditional jazz music at a world level. The line-up has of course changed several times over the years, making the Dutch Swing College Band more than an ordinary group of musicians. The predicate ‘institute’ is more applicable here. With refreshing arrangements in the unmistakable Dutch Swing College sound, played by a rejuvenated orchestra, the Dutch Swing College Band today is as energetic as never before. The swinging orchestra, founded on May 5, 1945, is widely seen as the calling card of Dutch Jazz with its exemplary function and has cautiously released more than 150 albums.

CAREL KRAAYENHOF QUARTET – Carel celebrates the Tango!
Sunday February 25th – 15.00 hrs | Music | Tickets here
Carel Kraayenhof has a lot to celebrate this year and that’s why he’s going all out. Together with his ‘compañeros’ from the Carel Kraayenhof Quartet, he presents a theater concert with music by four great tango composers: Pugliese, Piazzolla, Salgán and Troilo. Four special Argentinian musicians and composers who lived on the heartbeat of the tango
Together with the love of his life for 40 years: the bandoneon! Argentine composers, tango culture, life stories, 40 years of bandoneon
Exactly 40 years ago, Carel played harmonica in the Vondelpark. He was approached by an Argentinian passerby. “Do you also know the bandoneon; the heart and soul of my city, Buenos Aires?” Six months later, this man returned from Argentina to give Carel that which will change his whole life: the bandoneon. And Carel has never let go of the bandoneon, he has been embracing this special instrument for 40 years.
Penetrating, wry, lyrical and melodic: all musical moods are amply represented in this musical storytelling performance. The genius tangos of Pugliese, Salgán, Troilo and of course Piazzolla are enhanced by stories told by the musicians themselves. Stories about four Argentinian men who were closely connected musically and personally and who each in their own way carried the treasure of the tango. But also personal stories from, for example, Carel and his Argentinian pianist Juan Pablo about their encounters with their beloved maestros.
‘Tango is the first smile on your face, after crossing a sea of tears’
